EVALUATION QUESTION 2 NOTES
The poster and review both use navy blue writing, this is done to resemble the colour of the ink in a pen and so ties in with the title of our film. However, the poster portrays the film as a parody, which does not come across funny in the review and so is better to present visually, we decided to go for a Johnny English theme and make the poster look serious about something unexpected (pens) which adds to the comedy element. This helps to market the film as it tells the audience it will be funny and silly and so the audience would know what to expect and so the poster is used to draw those who enjoy comedies in to watch the short. As the poster is used to highlight the comedy and quirkiness within the film, the review shows the more professional side to the film, also to link the film and poster together we used s quote from the review and put it on the poster. The review is aimed more at people who like to be up to date on upcoming films and base whether or not they watch a film on the review, and so this targets an older audience than the poster as the review is for possibly teenagers/young adults who would find it interesting compared to the poster which is more visual and so could apply to all age groups mainly 8+. The poster is made to look more fun which is why we have a variety of black white red and blue and also the protagonist not looking scary even though he is the bad one in the film. This is done so that it still looks welcoming and people don't mistake the film for being scary. We added the pen behind his ear for effect to help emphasise that the film is based on this idea of pens which would intrigue the audience as something like this has not been done before and so adds to the quirkiness of the film, also the fact that it's about something different makes that it's unique selling point. To match the film itself we merged both of the title sequence backgrounds so it relates to what you see in the film and the audience is familiar with it, this also gives it a James Bond look, however the falling pens contrast and leads to you not taking it too seriously. We also got our actor to wear the same clothes as he wore in the film so this is something else the audience will feel familiar with, this is done because they would not be familiar with the pen element and so we do not want them to feel completely confused so the little familiarities may make them feel like they are part of the film and not completely new to it.
